Php4 Discontinued

I got this from my webhost.

QUOTE
Dear Clients,

We would like to inform you that the PHP developers have announced they will stop providing support for PHP 4 by the end of this year.

Here is an extract from the developers:
***********************************************
[13-Jul-2007] Today it is exactly three years ago since PHP 5 has been released. In those three years it has seen many improvements over PHP 4. PHP 5 is fast, stable & production-ready and as PHP 6 is on the way, PHP 4 will be discontinued.

The PHP development team hereby announces that support for PHP 4 will continue until the end of this year only. After 2007-12-31 there will be no more releases of PHP 4.4. We will continue to make critical security fixes available on a case-by-case basis until 2008-08-08. Please use the rest of this year to make your application suitable to run on PHP 5.

Read more at www.php.net
***********************************************

Since the PHP developers will no longer provide support / bug fixes / security updates for PHP 4, we will be forced to discontinue providing this service and make PHP 5 as the default version of PHP.

We apologize for the inconvenience caused you however we believe that continuing to provide PHP 4 after development has stopped will make our servers more vulnerable and prone to attack. This will eventually result in hacking attempts and may even cause server outages / downtimes which will be in no-ones interest.

We have always believed in keeping SECURITY our NUMBER ONE priority so you can focus on what’s important; running your business.

Therefore, we will be retiring PHP 4 in the first or second quarter of next year.

As advised by the PHP developers, please use the rest of this year to make your applications suitable to run on PHP 5.

I think one of those modifications I added was supposed to make this forum compatible with php5. I don't know for sure if it'll work, but there isn't much I can do really. So, if you've got stuff you'd like to keep, it might be a good idea to copy it off, just in case.

This board software was the last free version from Invision Power Board. I'm not sure if upgrading to the current paid version would still allow the portal (for the blogs) and Coppermine (the gallery) to keep the necessary references to the member accounts. Also, the new version of IPB has database changes that would probably "break" things around here too.

Skins With Random Background Images

I don't know if you've noticed, but there are now skins that will draw a random background image from the Gallery. Actually, it pulls the image from the Featured Background album in my personal album set. The background will change with every page load.

If you refresh a given page, a new image will be chosen. If you change pages a new image will be chosen. But, it's random. It might pick the same image. It might not.

Some people may find the new image with every page load annoying. Some on dial-up may find it slows things down a little.

Login Modification Installed

Installed the Secure Login modification. Now, if anyone enters a wrong login name and/or password, they will also have to enter a number. These attempts are now logged also. Too many missed logins and the account gets locked.
