Some of you may have heard of Jim Butcher's Harry Dresden series of books. You know, the Wizard for hire in Chicago who sometimes works as a consultant with the Lt. Karrin Murphy of the Special Investigations department of the Chicago Police.

Well, he has another series. The series is the Codex Alera. I've read books one and two so far.

Furies of Calderon
Academ's Fury

I still need to read:

Cursor's Fury
Captain's Fury
Princep's Fury
First Lord's Fury

In a world were most, (if not all), of the Aleran people have Furycrafting capabilies, (wind fury, earth fury, fire fury, water fury, metal fury, you get the idea), there is one young man, Tavi, who doesn't have a fury of his own.

I really like these books and the toward the end of the second one, we learn something about Tavi that he doesn't know. No spoilers!

Highly recommended - anything by Robin Hobb!

Suggest beginning wuth the Rain Wild series (Dragons). I'm waiting for the third book in the Fitz and the Fool series to come out, but it's not until May, unfortunately.

Esme: like a Swiss clock, built to last and regularly goes Cuckoo...

I haven't read Robin Hobb in years, but I did remember them as great books.
Right now the entire family is hooked on the Paladin of Shadows series and the Dark Tide Rising series by John Ringo.

The first one is sort of hard to catagorize. The publisher calls it military/techno thriller.

The second series is a bit scary as it deals with something that is all too possible now. A virus is released that kills off all the higher brain functions of primates, like us! The vast majority of the population are infected leaving a small group to rebuild the world while fighting off the infected, aka Zombies!!.
